Law minister says govt will ask SC to make ‘suitable modifications’ to order on Imran’s health

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated on Tuesday that the government will request the Supreme Court to make "suitable modifications" to the recent order concerning Imran Khan's health. The court had previously directed the government to relocate the former premier, who is currently incarcerated, to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within the next two days.

Tarar mentioned that medical professionals and experts might still participate in the process; however, he emphasized that conducting medical check-ups at private hospitals would grant similar treatment rights to "thousands" of other Pakistani prisoners with health issues. The minister added that treatment could often be administered within jails, and government hospitals also provided necessary facilities for prisoners requiring treatment outside jail.

The government would comply with the Supreme Court's order, according to Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who informed the Senate that the move would be implemented. PTI lawmakers applauded the court's decision while seeking assistance for other incarcerated leaders. The PML-N leadership also benefited from the court's ruling, according to Chaudhry.

Senator Azam Swati expressed his satisfaction that Imran Khan was being transferred to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and thanked the government. Senator Faisal Javed acknowledged the decision as welcome and stated that it was now the responsibility of the administration to implement it, with other imprisoned PTI leaders also needing relief.

Imran Khan, his sister Dr. Uzma, Mashal Azam, and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had sought directions from the Supreme Court for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital, access to his personal physicians, family members, and counsel, as well as the provision of his medical details to his family.
