L&T Finance To Add 26 Gold-Loan Locations In West Bengal By March 2027 Amid Expansion Drive

Kolkata, August 18, 2026 - L&T Finance Ltd is set to significantly expand its gold-loan business in West Bengal by adding 26 new locations by March 2027, according to Raju Dodti, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer. The company currently operates 28 locations in West Bengal, including four in Kolkata. This expansion is part of L&T Finance's broader strategy to scale up its gold-loan network across eastern India, with a target of adding around 500 branches during the current financial year, bringing the total network to approximately 843 branches.

At present, the gold-loan market in West Bengal is valued at around Rs 47,000 crore, with L&T Finance holding a 2.2% market share, leaving ample opportunities for growth. The average gold-loan ticket size at L&T Finance stands at around Rs 2.6 lakh per customer, and the company's gold-loan book reached Rs 3,829 crore in the first quarter of FY27.

The lender recently acquired and integrated the gold-loan business of Paul Merchants Finance Ltd. in June 2025. The Reserve Bank of India's latest master direction on gold loans aims to create a level playing field for lenders by consolidating existing circulars into a single master directive. This new framework will also provide lenders with an additional buffer for recovery and allow the regulator to assess finance companies on the same parameters.
