Ketel Marte doesn’t show up for game and is placed on the restricted list by Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed their star second baseman Ketel Marte on the restricted list following his absence from a recent game in Boston. Manager Torey Lovullo revealed that Marte failed to show up for the team's match against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night, leading to his placement on the restricted list. Lovullo stated, "It's been a crazy day.

All I know is that he's dealing with a personal issue — we're just trying to figure that out." He had attempted to communicate with Marte on Monday morning and afternoon but did not receive any answers, adding, "There was very little coming back." This is not the first time Marte has gone missing; last season, he was also placed on the restricted list when his home in Arizona was broken into during the All-Star break.

Marte missed three games after returning from the Dominican Republic and later apologized for his absence. Lovullo acknowledged that there had been discussions about Marte's situation among the team, but once it was confirmed he was safe, the focus returned to the game. Marte, a three-time All-Star, has been struggling at the plate this season, batting .249 with 21 home runs and 67 RBIs in 118 games.

In response to Marte's absence, Arizona recalled infielder Jose Fernandez to fill his roster spot. Fernandez was already in Boston, prepared to play if third baseman Nolan Arenado couldn't return after suffering from "trunk discomfort" during the previous game against Atlanta. While Arenado did not play against the Red Sox, his injury is not expected to be long-term.

As of now, the future of Marte's participation in future games remains uncertain. Lovullo expressed that he needed time to gain clarity on the situation, hinting that a good night's rest and a glass of wine might offer some perspective in the coming days.
