Juan Gabriel’s Iconic First Show at Palacio de Bellas Artes to Hit the Big Screen: ‘Movie Theaters Will Turn Into a Giant Karaoke’

Juan Gabriel’s iconic debut performance at Mexico’s Palacio de Bellas Artes in 1990 is set to be reimagined for movie audiences. The recently restored and remastered footage of the historic concert will soon be shown in cinemas across Latin America, Spain, and the United States, with screenings beginning on Aug. 28 and Sept. 15 respectively.

The film, "Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes," directed by María José Cuevas, brings to light never-before-seen rehearsal footage and captures Juan Gabriel’s first rehearsal just before the performance. The film, which includes previously unreleased scenes, aims to offer fans a more intimate connection with the artist. The event marks a significant milestone, as the concert also drew a massive audience of 170,000 people to Mexico City’s Zócalo in November 2025, more than doubling the 70,000 who attended a previous projection.

Cuevas notes that the concert was a turning point, breaking the barrier between popular and high culture. The film will be hosted by the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, and will be the first to be released in Dolby Atmos.
