Joan García Siblings: Getting to Know Lluís García

Joan García Pons is a Spanish professional goalkeeper currently playing for FC Barcelona and the Spain national team. Born in Sallent de Llobregat, Catalonia, on 4 May 2001, García is 1.93 metres tall and is known for his strong reflexes, command of the penalty area, ball-playing ability, and grounded personality. He has an older brother named Lluís García, who also played as a goalkeeper for the local Centre d'Esports Sallent team when Joan was young.

Lluís was a significant influence on Joan, who decided to become a goalkeeper after watching his brother play. Joan started playing football at age four with CE Sallent, initially as an outfield player before switching to goalkeeper under his brother's guidance. He progressed through various youth teams and academies, eventually joining RCD Espanyol's youth academy in 2016.

García made his senior debut with Espanyol B in 2019 and his first-team debut in 2021. After limited appearances with Espanyol's first team, he became the club's first-choice goalkeeper in the 2023-24 season, contributing to their promotion through the play-offs. In 2024-25, he led Espanyol in saves and helped the team avoid relegation.

Barcelona signed him in June 2025, and he has since become the club's first-choice goalkeeper, playing regularly in La Liga, the Champions League, and domestic cups. He also represented Spain at various youth levels and earned his first senior cap in 2026.
