Intel: Nova Lake Will Arrive For Desktop First, Not Datacentres

Intel's Robert Hallock, VP and General Manager of the Enthusiast Channel Business, revealed during an interview with Tom's Hardware that the upcoming Nova Lake desktop CPUs will launch for desktops before reaching any datacenters. This response came in comparison to AMD's decision to initially introduce its Zen 6 architecture for datacenters with the new EPYC Venice CPUs.

Hallock emphasized Intel's commitment to delivering products to consumers first, stating that it "makes a lot of sense" for them to do so. He went on to say that his company's new core is slated to arrive first on the desktop, prompting enthusiasts to "do the math" about this approach. Although Intel has faced setbacks with its 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors, such as voltage irregularities in 13th Gen and the 15th Gen's Core Ultra 2 Series prioritizing performance-per-watt efficiency over performance gains, the company has since made strides with the Core Ultra 200S Plus lineup.

Two working Nova Lake CPUs, featuring 24 cores/24 threads at 3.4GHz and 28 cores/28 threads at 3.2GHz, are already being tested in Intel's facilities, along with AVX-512 enabled features, indicating the return of this instruction set in the next generation.
