Gunmen kill police inspector, seven others in Adamawa

Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram militants killed nine individuals, comprising a police inspector and seven others, in an attack on Gaya-Dlang, a village near Fa'agaya in Adamawa State's Hong Local Government Area. The assailants also abducted four young girls during the raid, which took place on Monday evening, August 17. In addition to the violent assault, the attackers set ablaze houses and carried away food supplies.

The Hong LGA has been a frequent target of such attacks over the past few months, with a recent incident in Yadul District resulting in the deaths of a forest guard and three residents, along with the abduction of a woman. Dr Aliyu Yerima Hong, the Hong LGA chairman, confirmed the latest toll, stating that eight people were killed, including a police officer, and several others sustained injuries.

Communities in the area have been experiencing a severe exodus of peasant farmers who have abandoned their farms due to the heightened sense of insecurity. Dr Hong pledged that the local government would continue to support the military and security agencies, as well as hunters and vigilante groups, in maintaining peace and security throughout the local government area.
