GFA recommends Carlos Queiroz to continue as Black Stars coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unanimously endorsed Carlos Queiroz to retain his position as head coach of the Black Stars, following his exemplary work during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum informed Graphic Sports that the Executive Council unanimously decided to recommend the 73-year-old Portuguese coach to continue in his role.

Queiroz was initially appointed on a four-month contract to replace Otto Addo and took charge of Ghana prior to the World Cup. His future had been clouded by speculations of outstanding payments, but the GFA’s Executive Council unanimously decided to support Queiroz for a longer-term engagement. However, Asante Twum clarified that the recommendation does not guarantee Queiroz's continued role as Black Stars coach, as final approval must come from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which will handle the coach's salary.

The GFA has recommended Queiroz for a long-term contract, but the final decision rests with the ministry, which will assess the proposed agreement. Discussions between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and Queiroz will focus on resolving financial and contractual matters before confirming his future with the Black Stars.

Meanwhile, former Ghana Under-20 coach Desmond Ofei is seen as a strong contender to lead the team in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, scheduled to commence in September.
