The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed full support for Carlos Queiroz to continue as head coach of the Black Stars for a long-term deal, following the 2026 World Cup, according to communications director Henry Asante Twum. The Executive Council determined his performance warranted his retention, the source reported. However, the final decision to extend or modify his contract will rest with the Sports Ministry.

Queiroz's current short-term contract expired post the World Cup, and while the GFA wishes for his continued stewardship, any new agreement must be approved and funded by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Asante Twum declined to disclose specifics of the proposed contract or whether there are unresolved payments due to the 73-year-old Portuguese coach.

Reports indicate Queiroz is seeking an annual salary of approximately $150,000, a significant increase from the $80,000 he was earning. The GFA and ministry have both reportedly rejected his demand. Alternative narratives suggest the GFA is already in the process of vetting a potential new coach should an agreement not be reached. Desmond Ofei, the current assistant coach, is being considered as a possible successor, with some officials opposing his promotion to senior status.
