FULL LIST: UI, UNILAG lead Nigerian institutions in global ranking

The University of Ibadan has emerged as the top-ranked Nigerian institution in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. The University of Lagos came in second place nationally. According to the ranking, which assessed 32,148 universities and higher education institutions globally, UI placed 1,291st in the world. UNILAG was ranked 1,355th globally.

The University of Nigeria came third in the country and 1,397th globally, while Covenant University followed in fourth place nationally and 1,522nd globally. The ranking assesses institutions based on factors such as visibility, openness, and excellence, reflecting their digital presence, accessibility of scholarly resources, and research impact.

Top-performing Nigerian institutions include Landmark University at 1,659 globally, Ilorin University at 1,883, Obafemi Awolowo University at 1,986, Ahmadu Bello University at 2,068, and Federal University of Technology, Akure at 2,203. The ranking was led by American institutions, with Harvard University, Stanford University, MIT, and the University of Oxford occupying the top four positions.
