The Federal Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have distributed agricultural equipment and start-up packs to farmers and 33 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Kogi State. The Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP-AF) initiative aims to promote inclusion, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihoods.
The distribution took place in Lokoja and covered farmers in five Local Government Areas: Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Ibaji, Olamaboro, and Kabba-Bunu. The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Timothy Ojomah, emphasized the importance of an inclusive development approach. Dr. Stella Adejoh, the State Project Coordinator for IFAD-VCDP Kogi, highlighted that disability is not inability, and the programme offered support for PWDs without any cost.
Farmers contributed 30 per cent of the equipment cost, while PWDs received items like bags of rice, tables, chairs, bowls, and POS terminals, along with training on how to use them for small businesses. A total of 300 farmers and 350 women benefited from the distribution, which includes energy-efficient cooking stoves linked to briquetting machines.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the VCDP, IFAD, and the state government for the support.
