FatHopes Energy and PVOIL partner on renewable energy from used cooking oil

FatHopes Energy and PVOIL have formed a partnership to develop a renewable energy source from used cooking oil in Vietnam. This collaboration aims to create a circular economy by transforming waste cooking oil from households, restaurants, industrial kitchens, and seafood processing plants into certified renewable feedstock for advanced biofuels.

The partnership combines FatHopes Energy's expertise in collection operations, digital traceability, and global feedstock supply chains with PVOIL's extensive operational network, which includes approximately 1,000 petrol stations and robust logistics, transportation, and warehousing infrastructure.

The initiative will begin with a pilot in Ho Chi Minh City and expand nationwide, creating a scalable model for circular economy practices and environmental governance. At the core of the program is FatHopes Energy's proprietary Waste Recycling Management System, a digital platform that ensures end-to-end traceability of every drop of used cooking oil collected. This system enables the verification of feedstock from its origin, providing transparency for reporting and certification purposes.

By leveraging their respective strengths, FatHopes Energy and PVOIL aim to accelerate Vietnam's transition to cleaner energy sources while strengthening the country's position in the global bioeconomy. The partnership will also contribute to regional cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam in advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development, as Vietnam has the potential to become a significant contributor to the regional supply of sustainable feedstocks.

The initiative is expected to handle over 200,000 tonnes of feedstock annually, which will be exported to FatHopes Energy's upcoming refinery. This refinery will serve as a regional hub for processing waste feedstocks into SAF, providing a plug-and-play solution to accelerate the decarbonisation of aviation in the region. FatHopes Energy CEO Vinesh Sinha emphasized that this partnership goes beyond a simple used cooking oil collection program, marking the beginning of a new circular economy in Vietnam where everyday waste can become a valuable resource for cleaner skies and a more sustainable future.
