Family of missing 18-year-old hiker ‘absolutely devastated’ as search continues in rugged NSW terrain

Family of missing 18-year-old bushwalker Lily Hooper has released a statement, expressing their devastation over the unimaginable situation they now face. Seven days have passed since Ms Hooper failed to return from her hike in Nattai National Park, located in the Southern Highlands, southwest of Sydney. Her car was discovered near the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail, yet despite a massive multi-agency operation initiated on Wednesday night, there has been no sign of the experienced hiker.

The family issued the statement through NSW Police, conveying their heartfelt gratitude to emergency services, volunteers, and the community for their unwavering support throughout the relentless search. They pleaded for continued assistance from professional search teams due to the challenging terrain and weather conditions. The family urgently requested privacy as they grapple with this heartbreaking ordeal.

During the seventh day of the search, authorities remained hopeful, with specialist police crews alongside 200 teams from the SES and rescue helicopters operating day and night. They traversed through dense bush, deep ravines, and clifftops, battling inclement weather expected to clear on Thursday. However, despite their efforts, there was no trace of Ms Hooper or her belongings.

The family assisted in the search, and police noted that Ms Hooper likely had her mobile phone with her, and they were examining telecommunications data to establish her whereabouts after entering the park.
