EV5, 독일 전문가 평가서 모델 Y 제쳤지만…판매량은 역부족

In the first half of this year, Tesla's Model Y electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) sold 10 times more than Kia's EV5 in the German market. However, German automotive experts gave the EV5 the top spot in a comprehensive evaluation. Kia announced on the 18th that the EV5 had topped the electric sports utility vehicle comparison evaluation by German automotive specialist magazine Automobilwoche, beating Tesla's Model Y, China's Xpeng G6, and MG's EV5.

The EV5 received a total score of 588 points, 31 points ahead of the Model Y (557 points). The Xpeng G6 scored 541 points, and the MG EV5 scored 528 points. The EV5 outperformed the Model Y in four categories: body and safety, convenience, driving performance, and others. While the Model Y excelled in price, fuel efficiency, and charging efficiency, the EV5 led in interior space, braking performance, maneuverability, and passenger comfort.

The largest gap in scores was safety, with the EV5 scoring 89 points compared to the Model Y's 60 points. Kia explained that the EV5 stopped at 35 meters in emergency braking at 100 km/h, while the Model Y stopped at 39.3 meters and 38.2 meters, respectively. The EV5 also led in interior space and maneuverability. It received 100 points in the body category, 24 points ahead of the Model Y (76 points), and 66 points in the convenience category, 11 points ahead of the Model Y (55 points).

However, the Model Y dominated in sales. In the first half of the year, 19,701 Model Ys were registered in Germany, while only 1,434 EV5s were. Factors such as price differences and market entry timing played key roles. The Model Y entered the German market in October last year after introducing the redesigned trim in October, while the EV5 entered in November after a later arrival. The Tesla production facility in Berlin supports supply and pricing competitiveness.
