Commission formed to probe Mangi Dam attack in Balochistan

The Balochistan government has established a judicial inquiry commission to examine the terrorist assault on the Mangi Dam Pumping Station in Ziarat district, where 31 policemen were killed after being abducted by terrorists, according to official reports. Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana has been appointed to lead the inquiry commission, which began operations on August 15.

The government has invited various individuals, government departments, and security agencies to submit any relevant evidence or information to assist the investigation by August 28. Anyone with information about the attack is urged to appear before the Registrar/Secretary of the Inquiry Commission at the Balochistan High Court in Quetta, providing their names, addresses, contact details, and any supporting evidence.

The commission will present the submitted information and documents to Justice Muhammad Amir Nawaz Rana for evaluation as part of the judicial investigation. The commission's future proceedings will be announced later. The July 6 attack resulted in nine police deaths on the scene and 18 more who were killed after being kidnapped.

In response, security forces and law enforcement agencies initiated Operation Shaban on July 9. Protests by the families of the martyred police personnel took place in Quetta's Koila Phatak from July 9 to July 17 after the provincial government agreed to create a high-level inquiry commission into the security lapses.
