Chargers' Mike McDaniel shares heartfelt message about Kyle Shanahan

Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel shared a heartfelt message about his relationship with former 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. After the teams' joint practice, McDaniel reflected on Shanahan's role in his career. He emphasized his gratitude for the opportunities Shanahan and the 49ers organization provided him, calling him "very indebted" to them.

McDaniel highlighted the anticipation of facing his mentor on the field, describing it as a "nice little asterisk of excitement" for the upcoming game. Shanahan had given McDaniel his first top-tier coaching role in 2021, following a four-year stint as the run game specialist and coordinator in the Bay Area. During his lone season as an offensive coordinator for the 49ers, McDaniel helped the team achieve a seventh-ranked total offense and fifth in rushing offense.

Following his success in San Francisco, McDaniel was hired by the Dolphins as head coach, where he has served for the past four seasons. Now, McDaniel is poised to elevate the Chargers' offense with the addition of quarterback Justin Herbert. The coordinator boasts a roster filled with talent, including a refreshed offensive line, a strong running back group, and a wide receiver corps that could become one of the NFL's premier receiving units.
