Campoamor Residents Return to the Streets in Fight for Barranco Rubio Beach

Hundreds of residents and beach users have staged a second demonstration in Campoamor, demanding the regeneration of Barranco Rubio beach and restoration of safe access to the shoreline. The rally, organized by the Campoamor Residents and Associations Group, AVA Campoamor, followed concerns about the beach's condition and the closure of lifts providing step-free access.

AVA Campoamor acknowledged some improvements but warned they were insufficient. The demonstration coincided with peak tourist season in Orihuela Costa. Signs of improvement included a trench created to channel excess water at the beach's southern end, and better management of Posidonia seagrass. However, the two lifts that provide step-free access remain closed, affecting not only beach users but also building residents.

AVA Campoamor believes the new president of the Miraver community is more cooperative and hopes this will lead to a permanent solution. The council has also introduced a temporary shuttle service to the beach, despite criticism over its cost and conditions. Organizers collected signatures for a petition to demonstrate public concern and encouraged residents to join the association.

The rally concluded with a determined message from campaigners: "Not one step back for our beach and access."
