Busia Police seize bhang, methamphetamine worth over Ksh56M in a month

Police in Busia County have seized over 800 kilograms of bhang and 2.65 kilograms of methamphetamine worth more than Ksh56 million in the past month. Busia County Police Commander Robinson Lang'at revealed that the bhang was confiscated from traffickers attempting to smuggle the narcotics from neighboring Uganda. The drugs, recovered from various locations, are estimated to have a street value of Ksh35 million.

Since the start of the month, police have managed to seize more than 800 kilos of bhang, valued at over Ksh35 million. Additionally, on August 5, police intercepted 2.65 kilograms of methamphetamine, estimated at Ksh21 million. Lang'at emphasized that the drugs were entering the country through unofficial routes from Uganda, making the border region a prime focus in the ongoing anti-drug campaign.

The commander attributed the operation's success to the collaboration between security agencies and the public. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to help curb narcotics trafficking. The arrested suspects will face court proceedings as investigations into the source and intended destination of the drugs continue.

Police also recovered approximately 14.1 kilograms of suspected cannabis during a routine patrol in Busia County, following a tip-off from a member of the public. The National Police Service (NPS) maintains that they are intensifying efforts to combat drug trafficking through sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, and strong cooperation with the public.
