Eugene Boakye Antwi, the immediate former Member of Parliament for Subin and a former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, has pledged to reinstate the GHc5k monthly stipend for each constituency if elected as the new General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Currently, 70% of delegates in the Ashanti region back his candidacy.
Addressing delegates from the 11 constituencies in Greater Kumasi, Antwi emphasized the need for unity, discipline, and competent leadership to bring the NPP to power in the 2028 elections. He warned that without discipline, the party would never win. Antwi also expressed concern over the current administrative situation within the party, stating that the NPP Secretariat needs reformation.
According to Antwi, the party's loss of 50 seats in the last elections led to its opposition. He promised to restructure the party, modernize its machinery, and reestablish trust among the electorate. He urged delegates to elect experienced leaders for the NPP's National executive to protect the party's ideals and reclaim political power.
Delegates were asked to choose a suitable candidate to lead the party's fight for 2028, with Antwi himself being touted as the ideal candidate. Former Deputy Minister for Energy, William Owuraku Aidoo, also supported Antwi, urging delegates to choose a courageous and experienced leader like him.
