Kuala Lumpur: Former Malaysian State Chief Justice Richard Malanjum has been accepted and registered as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia. Malanjum, 73, is the first Borneo-born judge to be appointed to the position, holding it for nine months until April 12, 2019. Prior to being appointed to the highest position at the Federal Court, he was Senior Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

Malanjum began his legal career in the public attorney's office before embarking on private practice. He served as President of the Law Association of Sabah and has been recognized for his significant contributions to the development of constitutional law through both majority and minority judgments. He introduced e-Review, a system that allows lawyers to manage cases regardless of their location, be it in an office or during vacation.

This system helps expedite case resolution and enables routine tasks such as investigation and draft preparation to be done simultaneously. He was also recognized for introducing the e-Appellate/e-Bicara without paper system, which allows lawyers to access and review recent judgments even before they are reported by legal publishers.

In January 2022, Malanjum was appointed as the Ombudsman of the United Nations' Office of the UNOOSA by the Secretary-General. In December of the previous year, he was appointed as pro-chancellor of Multimedia University.
