Baffoe-Bonnie was part of ‘grand conspiracy’ against Torkornoo – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie of orchestrating a "grand conspiracy" against his predecessor, Gertrude Torkornoo. Torkornoo was dismissed from her position in September 2025 following a process under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which involved petitions alleging misconduct.

This inquiry was chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang. Afenyo-Markin claims Baffoe-Bonnie's ambition to become Chief Justice fueled the alleged plot. "My Lord Baffoe-Bonnie was part of the grand conspiracy against her predecessor, Gertrude Torkornoo," said Afenyo-Markin. He made these allegations while discussing Torkornoo's removal and Baffoe-Bonnie's subsequent appointment as Chief Justice.

Afenyo-Markin also alleged that certain Supreme Court judges participated in the events leading to Torkornoo's dismissal, stating that the full story would eventually be revealed. He has repeatedly called for Torkornoo's reinstatement, which remains a contentious issue between the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Afenyo-Markin criticized the committee's handling of the proceedings, describing it as a "travesty of justice." During Baffoe-Bonnie's vetting for Chief Justice in November 2025, he questioned certain aspects of the process and raised concerns about the handling of the petitions against Torkornoo.
