Axis Bank Credit Card Rules Change From August 28, Higher Currency Fee & New Reward Limits Ahead

Axis Bank will adjust several credit card rules and fees starting August 28, 2026. Customers should be aware of these changes to prevent unexpected costs and loss of reward points. The changes affect foreign payments in Indian rupees, late payment fees, partial bill payments, gift card purchases, and toll-related transactions.

The Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee will increase from 1.5% to 3.5%, excluding applicable taxes. This fee applies when customers use an Axis Bank credit card abroad and pay in Indian rupees instead of the local currency. For instance, a transaction of Rs 1 lakh will incur a fee increase from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,500 before taxes. Customers traveling abroad should verify the currency option shown by merchants or payment machines.

Customers with an outstanding balance over Rs 50,000 will now face a late payment fee of Rs 1,300, while fees for lower balances will remain the same. Starting from Q1 FY27 earnings, Axis Bank will provide earnings updates for 70 companies, including Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank.

For partial bill payments, the amount paid will first cover fees, charges, and taxes. The remaining balance will then be applied to EMI dues, interest, purchase-related amounts, and cash withdrawal dues, in that order. Hence, a partial payment might not directly reduce the purchase amount owed.

Effective August 28, gift card transactions will be treated separately from wallet transactions. Customers will not earn reward points or cashback on gift card purchases and will not contribute to fee-waiver limits or milestone-based spending targets. Additionally, payments towards bridge charges, road fees, and tolls will also be ineligible for rewards or cashback.

Overseas travelers should consider paying in local currency where appropriate and carefully review their monthly statements. Timely payment of the total amount due can help customers avoid interest and late fees under the revised rules.
