Autotest: Neuer Polestar 5 punktet mit Komfort und bis zu 884 PS

Polestar is shifting away from Volvo's large family-oriented and spacious models, introducing the Polestar 5 as a new top-of-the-range performance GT. The Swedish-made electric coupé aims to compete against vehicles such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Lucid Air. The design is striking, but not as extravagant as its German counterparts, attracting fewer sideways glances.

The Polestar 5 Dual Motor starts at 118,600 euros in Germany, compared to the Taycan's starting price of 102,600 euros. However, buyers receive half the power and 20% less battery capacity. One notable feature is the absence of a rear hatch, replaced by a panoramic roof and a wider rear seat area. Digital rearview mirrors replace the rearview mirror for drivers, while passengers enjoy sophisticated ambient lighting.

The vehicle prioritizes Viersitzer seating with a configurable central seat. The trunk holds 365 liters, expanding to 1,128 liters when rear seats are folded down, along with a 62-liter front trunk. The Polestar 5 delivers 550 kW/748 PS in standard form and 650 kW/884 PS in the performance version, enabling 0-100 km/h sprint in under 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

The steering is precise and stable, even at high speeds, with customizable suspension and driving modes. The 112 kWh battery can cover up to 678 kilometers in the Dual Motor version and 558 kilometers in the performance version. The 800-volt architecture aims to reduce charging time from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes. Despite its unusual design, the Polestar 5 offers a refined interior, high performance, and long-range capabilities.

However, its price may deter some potential buyers. Polestar plans to launch the 4 as an SUV and release the 7, a compact SUV, in 2028.
