Anwar: Tabung Haji probes stretch beyond RCI, enforcement ordered to act fast, firm, fearless

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that investigations and actions related to Tabung Haji (TH) issues may extend beyond the scope and timeframe examined by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI). Anwar, who also serves as the finance minister, clarified that the RCI serves as the foundation or "parent" for the investigation and scrutiny into the matter, and there are no hindrances for authorities to examine events that occurred both before and after the period under investigation.

He informed reporters that all current actions and studies surpass the RCI, and enforcement and investigation bodies are actively pursuing such inquiries. The Prime Minister emphasized that he would not interfere with the investigation or prosecution process, but he has instructed relevant parties to inform and brief the Malay Rulers on the TH issue.

Anwar also requested the explanation of these matters to His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. He highlighted that a firm and swift approach is necessary to save the country, despite the political risks involved. Anwar further indicated that after the TH issue, the government will also address the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) issue, acknowledging the challenges posed by political realities.

He expressed his willingness to take the political risks associated with these actions. Anwar underscored his unwavering commitment to governance and combating corruption, particularly in the context of large sums of money. He linked governance issues to the significance of the 2027 Budget, stating that leakage and weak governance can result in the government losing funds meant to benefit the people.
