Anak syarikat MSC diarah henti sementara operasi lombong timah

Malaysia Smelting Corporation Bhd's (MSC) subsidiary, Rahman Hydraulic Tin Sdn Bhd (RHT), has been ordered by the Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG Perak) to temporarily halt its tin mining operations. According to a statement from Bursa Malaysia, the directive was issued on August 12 after an on-site examination by JMG Perak at RHT's tin mine in Klian Intan following a heavy rain event on August 3, which recorded approximately 60mm of rainfall in a single hour.

The heavy rain exceeded the maximum design capacity of 50mm in RHT's drainage and overflow infrastructure, leading to damage to certain drainage facilities and overflowing water pumps.

Despite the temporary suspension, the global tin smelting and mining group said its mining and smelting operations continue to run normally. RHT operates a closed-loop water management system during normal operations, with no regular release of process water into the nearby river. The process water is continuously cycled within the mine, and water quality is maintained through the addition of lime to neutralize acidity, and sedimentation is managed at the monitoring area within the mine.

RHT is currently undertaking necessary repairs and upgrades, including working with JMG Perak on a comprehensive recovery plan. The temporary suspension will remain in effect until further notice from JMG Perak. As the suspension duration is subject to JMG Perak's approval, the financial impact on the group cannot be determined at this time.

MSC affirmed that the group's tin smelting operations, a core segment of its business, remained unaffected by the directive and continued to operate as usual.
