Abu Dhabi launches awards to recognise tourism excellence

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has introduced the Visitor Experience Awards to honor organizations and front-line professionals who deliver exceptional experiences to tourists. Over 400 tourism and culture entities have been invited to participate, aiming to promote outstanding tourist services and elevate standards throughout Abu Dhabi's tourism industry.

A panel of independent leaders and experts from both public and private sectors will evaluate the companies and professionals, selecting 24 winners, whose names are anticipated to be revealed before the year's end. Last year, Abu Dhabi welcomed a record-breaking 26.6 million visitors, with cultural sites, libraries, and major events recording impressive numbers.

The emirate aims to boost this figure to 39.3 million by 2030, while also increasing the tourism sector's GDP contribution to Dh90 billion ($24.5 billion) by the end of the decade.

The awards are part of DCT Abu Dhabi's broader Visitor Experience programme, which also includes the recently launched Visitor Experience Guidelines and VX Academy. These initiatives reflect the emirate's commitment to strengthening its position as a leading international tourism and cultural destination by recognizing the individuals and organizations responsible for shaping visitors' experiences.

Upcoming attractions, such as the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which is set to open on December 11, and Sphere Abu Dhabi, scheduled to open on Yas Island by the end of 2029, are expected to significantly enhance Abu Dhabi's appeal to tourists. Additionally, plans for Disney Abu Dhabi – the Middle East's first theme park with a Harry Potter-themed land – and a major expansion of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi are currently in development.

"With a solid foundation of cultural engagement and robust tourism performance, Abu Dhabi continues to evolve as a world-leading destination that provides exceptional experiences," stated Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, the undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi.
