2027: NUJ unveils program for election debate in Akwa Ibom

On Tuesday, the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) unveiled plans for the 2027 election debate in the state. The debate aims to provide candidates with an opportunity to articulate their policy direction, developmental plans, and past records to the electorate. Speaking at the NUJ Secretariat in Uyo, Council Chairman Comrade Nsibiet John emphasized the initiative's alignment with the media's role in setting agendas.

He urged the debate committee to maintain transparency and impartiality, urging journalists in Akwa Ibom to promote the event. John stated that NUJ members form the committee, and a successful debate would be a source of pride for the journalists' collective achievements. Committee Chairman Ndanti Ekuh called for journalist support, stressing the importance of the debate in enabling candidates to clearly communicate their vision and plans for governance.

The debate is scheduled from December 9th to 11th, 2026, with participation from candidates of all political parties, as part of NUJ's commitment to fostering issue-based political campaigns, accountable leadership, and democratic participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
