2 dead in southern Philippines school shooting, suspect reportedly a student

A shooting at a high school in the southern Philippines has claimed two lives, including the suspected gunman. The incident occurred on August 18 at Ateneo de Zamboanga University, a high school situated in the city of Zamboanga. Both victims were students, with one of them identified as the shooter. The mayor of Zamboanga, Khymer Adan Olaso, confirmed the details to DZMM radio, stating that a high-powered firearm was used in the attack.

The suspect, a student, initiated the shooting in a classroom, and the university reports no further casualties or injuries. Ernald Andal, the university's head, stated that the shooting has ended and that there are no additional active shooters. The university is cooperating with authorities and will provide further updates as they become available.
