2,145 individuals voluntarily sought treatment under amended drug law

In the first year since amendments to the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 were implemented, 2,145 individuals voluntarily sought treatment, according to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. This figure, announced at the home ministry's monthly assembly, represents a significant step towards tackling drug abuse.

Of these individuals, 1,401 received community-based treatment, while 744 underwent institutional rehabilitation. Saifuddin emphasized that the amendments have successfully drawn those involved to come forward and seek help. While he acknowledged that there is still much room for improvement, he reiterated the need for continued focus on prevention, enforcement, and strengthening treatment and rehabilitation efforts.
