Zong and Zindigi Launch Z-Wallet, Bringing Embedded Banking to Millions of My Zong App Users

Pakistan's leading technology services firm, Zong, has joined forces with Zindigi, an innovation of JS Bank, to introduce Z-Wallet. This new digital financial service is now accessible directly within My Zong App (MZA) due to an embedded-finance model facilitated by Zindigi’s Banking-as-a-Service infrastructure. The announcement was made at an event attended by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, and other government officials, highlighting the significance of this collaboration in the evolution of telecom and digital finance services in Pakistan.

My Zong App, boasting over 22 million monthly active users, now enables its customers to access essential banking services without needing to download a separate banking application. This move signifies Zong's transformation from a traditional telecom operator to a comprehensive technology services enterprise. Z-Wallet combines Zong's technological platforms with Zindigi’s digital banking and financial technology capabilities, all operating under the regulatory framework of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Offering services like interbank fund transfers to any Pakistani bank, utility bill payments, and mobile top-ups, Z-Wallet is expected to grow with planned additions such as nano lending, a Z-Debit Card, and specialized Zong bundles. The launch has been well-received, with Z-Wallet already onboarding 22,000 verified wallets and processing over 12,000 transactions in a short span of time, indicating strong customer interest in convenient digital financial services.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar applauded the initiative, emphasizing its role in advancing digital and financial inclusion as part of the government's Digital Nation Pakistan vision. Zong's Marketing Head, Sajid Munir, emphasized the integration of connectivity, technology, and finance within a single digital platform. Zindigi’s Co-Founder and Chief Officer, Noman Azhar, argued for the importance of embedding banking services within existing digital ecosystems to enhance financial inclusion.

This partnership aligns with the global trend towards embedded finance, where banking services are increasingly provided within the digital platforms customers already use. Z-Wallet's success, especially after its soft launch, underscores the increasing demand for integrated digital financial services in Pakistan. With Zong's extensive customer base and Zindigi's banking expertise, the initiative aims to streamline access to financial services and enhance digital experiences for users across the nation.
