Zimbabwe: Kariba Boat Disaster - Rising Death Toll Exposes Rida 'Lies', Passenger Figures Under Scrutiny As Body Count Hits 84

The death toll from the tragic boat accident on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe has risen to 84, indicating that the number of people on board the RIDA vessel may have been higher than initially reported. Initially, the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) claimed 153 passengers, but the death toll now surpasses that figure. Four more bodies have been recovered, raising the confirmed death toll to 84.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the discovery of the latest victims and stated that search efforts are ongoing to locate missing individuals. Earlier, RIDA had stated that 77 people had been rescued, leaving a discrepancy of eight people between the reported death and rescue counts. The boat, which had a capacity of 90 passengers, capsized due to rough conditions on Lake Kariba, leading to a major rescue operation.

Authorities are still recovering bodies from the lake, and the exact number of missing individuals remains unknown. This disaster has become one of Zimbabwe's deadliest water tragedies, and families are anxiously awaiting the recovery and identification of their loved ones.
