Woman Dies After Consuming Acid, Family Seeks Probe; Body Exhumed In MP's Khargone

In Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, police conducted an exhumation of a 29-year-old woman's body from a Muslim cemetery after her family raised concerns about her death and demanded an impartial investigation. Nilofar, wife of Naeem, was found to have consumed acid on August 15 morning. Despite being admitted to a private hospital, her condition deteriorated, and she died during transportation to Indore in critical condition.

The body was buried on the same day with the consent of both families, but her maternal relatives later alleged the death was suspicious and called for a police probe. Naeem's brother, Farhan Sheikh, claimed that both Nilofar and Naeem were second marriages for each other and that frequent disputes arose over Naeem's past marital ties, as well as allegations of physical abuse.

The family expressed doubt over the suicide claim and stated they were pressured to sign hospital documents with insufficient information. The burial was conducted hastily, according to the family. Initially, a case of unnatural death was registered, with further action contingent on the post-mortem report and family statements.
