Why backpack fit matters to a growing back for kids
A backpack changes posture before a child has taken a single step. In a small study of children aged 8 to 11, researchers found that loads equal to 15 and 20 per cent of body weight produced an immediate increase in forward head posture. That does not mean school bags damage the spine. The American Academy of Pediatrics says backpacks have not been shown to cause scoliosis or long term problems.…
