‘What will Dhoni’s place be’: Former India captain asks CSK amid head coach search

Former Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has taken over as England’s red-ball coach, sparking discussions about their next head coach. Names such as former England batter Eoin Morgan and Brendon McCullum have been tossed around, but Kris Srikkanth, the former India captain, has suggested the franchise should consider their batting coach, Michael Hussey.

Srikkanth also emphasized the need to determine MS Dhoni's role within the team, as the five-time IPL-winning side has not seen the former captain play since 2025 due to injuries. Dhoni, fondly known as Mr. Cricket, joined CSK in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008 and served as the head coach for 17 years, leading the team to five IPL titles, two Champions League Twenty20 titles, and making it to the IPL play-offs 12 times and the finals ten times.

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also hinted on his YouTube channel that Eoin Morgan might become the head coach, with early discussions already underway. However, Srikkanth believes Morgan would not be a suitable coach and should focus on commentary instead.
