'We'll have to follow medical advice': Pakistan captain Babar Azam doubtful for England opener

Pakistan captain Babar Azam remains in doubt for the opening Test match against England at Headingley, which is scheduled to commence on Wednesday. The cricket star is still recuperating from a finger injury that he sustained during the second Test against the West Indies. Additionally, he was injured again during a warm-up match against a Professional County Club Select XI in Beckenham last week.

Pakistan's pacer Mohammad Abbas stated that the team has not yet made a final decision on Azam's participation, as the final call will be made on match day, according to AFP. After completing a few batting exercises and some practice, Abbas emphasized that the team must adhere to medical advice regarding Azam's fitness. The absence of Azam would be a significant worry for Pakistan as they gear up to face England in the first Test of the series.

The team will continue to closely monitor his recovery before determining if he is fit enough to participate in the match. Masood, Pakistan's opening batsman, also has concerns about his fitness. He fractured his finger during the first Test against the West Indies and was unable to play in the second match. Despite not participating in the Beckenham warm-up, Masood returned to training at Headingley on Monday and completed the entire session.

Abbas mentioned that they will solely rely on medical advice to assess Masood's readiness. Following an extensive practice session, Masood appeared to be in good health. Pakistan is hopeful that both players will receive positive medical assessments before the opening Test commences on Wednesday.
