VIP Bus Goes Up In Flames At Abuakwa

A VIP bus traveling from Kumasi to Sunyani was completely destroyed by fire at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region's Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality on yesterday. The incident happened shortly after the bus left the Kumasi station, with passengers noticing smoke from the vehicle. As the bus reached the Abuakwa stretch of the main Kumasi-Sunyani highway, the fire escalated, prompting passengers to rapidly exit for their safety.

An eyewitness provided information to the DAILY GUIDE about the fire's rapid escalation, stating that the smoke in the vehicle led to the entire bus being engulfed in flames within less than five minutes. No casualties were reported, but the bus and passengers' property were completely destroyed. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was called to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control, but the bus had already been extensively damaged by the time they arrived.

Heavy traffic ensued on the Abuakwa stretch of the highway, as motorists slowed down to allow emergency personnel to manage the situation. Police officers were subsequently deployed to the area to maintain order and ease congestion. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with early suspicions pointing towards an overheated engine.
