The deadline for a 60-day peace framework between the United States and Iran passed on Monday without an extension deal being reached, according to reports from the Arabian Post. Despite earlier speculation that the two sides had agreed to prolong the arrangement, conflicting accounts emerged, leading to uncertainty in efforts to resolve the conflict and restore trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran's claims of no ongoing negotiations on extending the 60-day period contrasted with reports suggesting mutual consent to continue talks. Key issues remaining unresolved include freedom of navigation through Hormuz, the US naval blockade, sanctions relief, and Iran's nuclear program. The June framework aimed to transition from de-escalation to a lasting settlement, with both sides committing to negotiate a final agreement within 60 days.

Commercial passage through Hormuz, worth roughly one-fifth of internationally traded oil and gas, remained a critical point of contention. Iran's separate arrangement with Oman for commercial transit through the strait was also uncertain. Nuclear issues, such as Iran's nuclear program and the future of its enriched uranium stockpile, remained unsolved under the June memorandum.

While Washington committed to refraining from new sanctions, Iran demanded the removal of US military pressure and greater control over Hormuz. Military tensions continued alongside diplomatic efforts, raising concerns for energy markets, shipping costs, and global inflation as the negotiating window closed.
