UMB, ORC partner to make business registration easier for entrepreneurs

Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has begun collaborating with the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) to make business registration and compliance more convenient for entrepreneurs in Ghana. The partnership, discussed on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, seeks to bring essential ORC services closer to entrepreneurs by making them available at selected UMB branches instead of requiring visits to ORC offices.

Victoria Esinam Attipoe, UMB’s Branch Network Head for Greater Accra, and Edem Knight-Tay, the bank’s Head of Corporate Communication, highlighted the initiative as a means to support the formalisation of businesses and eliminate some of the inconvenience associated with accessing public services. The partnership started at the UMB Kasoa branch, where ORC services are now available for new business registration, updating business records, and other related services.

It is expected to expand to Tema Main and Labone branches in the near future. By collaborating with a public regulatory agency, UMB aims to support the government's objective of making it easier for businesses to operate formally and reduce practical barriers for entrepreneurs entering the formal economy.
