Trump hints at Kim talks, says making Korea situation 'safer'

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of new talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. He claimed that his connections with Kim were leading to increased safety in the Korean situation. Trump's remarks followed a day when he reduced joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises and commended his relationship with Kim.

When asked why Kim had not responded to his calls for a dialogue, Trump questioned how anyone could know for certain that he had not. After a brief pause, he stated that Kim had indeed responded and the discussions were "very positive." However, Trump did not offer any additional information about the status of these talks. He had previously given similar ambiguous accounts of unconfirmed conversations with other world leaders, such as Russia's Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping.

Despite meeting Kim three times during his first term, Trump has not had any further interactions with him since leaving the White House last year. He emphasized that his association with Kim had helped ease tensions between the two nations.
