Trump envoy says Hamas disarmament could begin within 30 days

US President Donald Trump's envoy, Jared Kushner, claimed on Monday that the process of disarming Hamas and advancing a Gaza peace plan could commence within a month after discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. As per Kushner's comments to Fox News, the administration aims to start removing some of the weapons and tunnels within 30 days, providing some relief to the Gaza Strip.

The agreement reached by Kushner and Netanyahu enlists an American general to verify Hamas' disarming process. Netanyahu, facing re-election, initially rejected the latest part of the US plan to end the Gaza war. The agreement stipulates that no redeployment or reconstruction will occur in Gaza until Hamas is disarmed across the Strip. An American general, commanded by US Major General Jasper Jeffers, will oversee the disarmament process, under the International Stabilization Force.

Kushner's meeting with Netanyahu came after the latter held direct talks in Egypt with Hamas. The two sides agreed that Hamas would hand over its weapons for decommissioning supervision. The official statement from the Board of Peace, which includes Kushner, stated that fully decommissioned weapons will not be reused. If Hamas resorts to terror or attempts to rearm, Israel reserves the right to take action.

Hardline Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir suggested that Israel should kill 30 to 40 people daily in Gaza. Meanwhile, Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Kushner, praising the Board of Peace's efforts for a brighter and secure future for Israel, Gaza, and the region. Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, Israeli operations have resulted in at least 1,265 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza's health ministry figures.
