‘Those against Nuclear plant are anti development,’ CS Wandayi says

NAIROBI, Kenya - Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has criticized demonstrators against the proposed nuclear power plant in Siaya county, accusing them of being anti-development individuals. Wandayi claimed that outsiders are funding these demonstrations to incite locals to reject the construction of a nuclear plant in Lenya area, Bondo Sub-County.

In Bondo, the Energy CS urged residents of Siaya county to support the Sh500 billion project, which will generate power for the country and stimulate infrastructure development. "The fact that the government has chosen to locate this first-ever Sh500 billion nuclear plant in Siaya is significant," Wandayi emphasized, urging the residents from Bondo to Rarieda to defend the project.

He commended the political class in the region for supporting the project and criticized those who have reversed their stance. The Energy CS also praised President William Ruto's administration for allocating over shs. 2 billion for electricity connectivity in the fiscal year.
