Teacher allegedly sets wife ablaze in Kogi

According to the Kogi State Police Command, a suspect named Jacob Irewa was arrested for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, on fire in a domestic dispute. The incident allegedly occurred on Friday afternoon at their residence in Lokoja after a disagreement over missing short sleeve shirts. Irewa, who claimed to be an ordained pastor and teacher on vacation in Lokoja, said he discovered his seven short-sleeve shirts were missing and became frustrated.

He then fetched petrol from his motorcycle, poured it on his wife, and lit it with matches. Berida survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment at Honey Gold Hospital. The police have commenced an investigation into the attempted culpable homicide.
