Support private universities, Baze varsity VC urges govt

Vice-Chancellor of Baze University, Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, has urged the government to provide greater support to private universities, arguing that they play a crucial role in national human-capital development goals. Adeniyi emphasized that private universities face significant financial pressures in offering quality education, maintaining infrastructure and adhering to regulatory requirements.

He stressed that these institutions should not be viewed as profit-making organizations and highlighted the immense costs involved in hiring staff, procuring facilities, providing utilities, and executing capital-intensive projects. Adeniyi called for the government to support private universities, commending the efforts of the Executive Secretary of TETFund in including private institutions in its research programs, while also requesting more support to strengthen their capacity.
