The idea for the system came from an ordinary flower. Park Il-hwan, CEO of the company, said, “I got the idea when I saw the blooming flowers of the Korean firebush (Hibiscus syriacus) in the mountains. When the flowers bloom, they burst open.” The Korean firebush is also known as the “Rose of Sharon.” The team developed a fire-extinguishing system that works without any power source. The system is called “Eco-Fire Dragon.” It uses compressed air to spread fire-extinguishing powder. The powder is made from a mixture of perlite, talc, and a fire retardant. The system is designed to be used in wildfires in mountains and forests. The team spent two years and seven months developing the system. They received 1.5 billion won in government funding for the project. The system will be commercialized in the second half of next year. The company plans to export the system to countries that suffer from wildfires, such as Australia and the United States.
