Sovereign data platform to accelerate Sarawak’s development

Premier Abang Johari Openg announced Sarawak's plans to establish a sovereign data platform aimed at accelerating the state's development. This initiative seeks to strengthen the sovereign data ecosystem by enabling government data to be stored, managed, and utilized on its own infrastructure. The platform will integrate various data sets, including those for smart city development, residential areas, business districts, road networks, connectivity, and public transport.

Abang Johari emphasized that while most data could be shared, certain strategic information and security-related data would remain protected. Access to specific data may be granted to external parties, such as investors interested in joint ventures, allowing them to obtain relevant information for project development. Sarawak aims to develop its own satellite constellation by 2030, consisting of at least six interconnected satellites, to ensure continuous data acquisition and signal strength.

This constellation will enable the government to obtain data almost continuously, 24 hours a day, facilitating faster project implementation and solution discovery based on the collected data.
