'Solution lies in seriousness': Tariq Fazal Chaudhry tells opposition offer for talks still on table

ISLAMABAD: On Monday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry addressed the PTI-led opposition, expressing that the government's offer for talks remained available. Chaudhry urged the opposition to display seriousness and suggested they agree on a date and location for negotiations. He emphasized, "The solution lies in seriousness," and criticized them for not being serious about talks while seeking to undermine the system.

Senator Abdul Qadir echoed Chaudhry's call for dialogue, stating that political issues could only be resolved through political means. He urged both sides to sit together and agree on terms of reference. Meanwhile, Prime Minister's Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Chaudhry met with opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.

They discussed crucial matters such as the chief election commissioner appointment, the political situation, and mutual political concerns. The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) announced they would continue meeting. In December 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz had extended an invitation for talks, but the PTI had rejected them.

However, TTAP, which includes PTI, expressed openness to negotiation. Since then, the government has consistently urged the opposition to engage in dialogue. In July, Abbas confirmed the opposition's readiness to hold talks and requested a neutral venue. He revealed that the government had invited opposition leaders to the PM's office for discussions.

However, the PTI insisted on holding the meeting in Parliament House and demanded improved facilities and access to medical care for Imran Khan. PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram stressed that negotiations could not occur without a conducive environment, emphasizing that the party sought more than mere photo opportunities.
