Sekyedumase Community Bank PLC protests against demolition of offices

The Sekyedumase Community Bank PLC has protested against the demolition of its office complex in Aboabo, Kumasi, on Monday, August 10, 2026, by the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly. The demolition was said to be for the 24-Hour Economy Market project. Michael Kwabena Afriyie, the CEO of the bank, stated that the demolition affected the bank's assets worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

The demolition took place despite a mandatory interlocutory injunction in place and an application from the Municipal assembly, to which the bank filed an affidavit in opposition. The bank has operated in the community for over 33 years. The Assembly denied the allegation, calling it "fabricated, completely false and without basis," saying it engaged with the bank for nine months before the demolition.

The Assembly maintained that the structure was not demolished and reaffirmed its commitment to due process.
