Scare at Benalmadena hotel as fire forces partial evacuation of nearly 300 guests

On Sunday night, a fire sparked panic at the Spirit Hotel Benalmadena, forcing a partial evacuation of nearly 300 guests. The blaze erupted around 9pm in a previously closed massage salon, a room on the ground floor, and quickly filled the area with smoke. While empty at the time, the room still triggered the hotel's safety protocols, prompting guests to remain in place or move to safer areas.

Two Benalmadena firefighters arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the fire without any injuries. Hotel staff collaborated closely with the firefighters, while police ensured a safe perimeter. Local officials commended the efficient teamwork, which prevented the situation from worsening. By 10.15pm, the area was deemed safe, and guests returned to their rooms, resuming normal operations.

Hotel manager Hugo Uria described the incident as a "right scare," acknowledging the quick response of sensors and sprinklers that limited damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
