Sarawak forest fire in Daro enters eighth day, 4ha still burning

Daro, Aug 17 — Forest firefighters have been battling a blaze in Kampung Kut for eight days, affecting approximately 29 hectares of land. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported on Sunday that 4 hectares of the affected area were still unextinguished. As of the latest update, firefighters from the Daro fire station were working to extinguish the remaining hotspots across three sectors.

Sector one is located behind a petrol station, sector two along the main road, and sector three near a telecommunications tower, according to Bomba.

Firefighting operations persisted until 5pm, with two excavators deployed to create firebreaks and prevent the fire from spreading further. Additionally, water was sourced from nearby drains and a check dam to aid in suppression efforts. The distress call regarding the forest fire was initially received on August 10 at around 1:40pm.
