Sammi Awuku Denies EOCO Arrest

Sammi Awuku, a Member of Parliament representing Akuapem North, refuted claims that he had been arrested by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on Saturday, August 15, 2026. In a video posted online, Awuku, who is also affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), dismissed allegations of his arrest for corruption-related offenses while serving as Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

Reports on social media had suggested that Awuku had been detained for his alleged misconduct during his time at NLA. However, the MP clarified that he had been present in Kumasi throughout the day for the National Democratic Congress (NPP) regional election held on Saturday across the nation. Awuku questioned the veracity of the arrest claims, pointing out that if he had been detained on Saturday, how could he be meeting Appiah Stadium, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizer, in Kumasi on Sunday morning.

Appiah Stadium, in response to the arrest rumors, suggested that Awuku has no reason to be concerned about a potential arrest by EOCO as he would receive funds to leave the country if charged.
